Butterflies And Flutterbys

Butterflies and flutterbys are all around me as I hike around Northern California. Spring is in full swing, and nature is busy at work pollinating all the plants and flowers. My trusty telephoto lens and fast shutter make for some lovely stills of these gentle creatures as they float from place to place.

The two butterflies photographed here often swirled playfully around one another as they dove through the flowers and trees. It was a joy to finally locate them as it was quite a hike to get to where they are currently congregating. I hope to photograph these beauties a few more times before they continue on their migration.

Macro Water Drops On Roses

Water drops on roses is my current focus while trying to master the art of water droplet macro photography.  The days are quite windy in the Spring here. Each day I check the weather to make sure the conditions are just right. The sunlight allows for stopping down the aperture and faster shutter speeds as I do only hand-held macro photography. I am hoping to find some white roses tomorrow at the Farmer’s Market as I suspect they will reflect the light and water beautifully.

Wildflowers, Water Drops & Ladybugs

To my wonderment and surprise, more wildflowers continue to bloom around our yard. These tiny orange flowers close up when not in direct sunlight so they were not noticed right away. Water drops make everything look better, especially in macro photography. There is something about peering into the tiny world of macro water drops; simple gardens turn into fairy lands, giving us a small perspective on this very big world.

I’ve allowed part of our yard to be overgrown with clovers and wildflowers. There within this mini-jungle resides ladybugs, butterflies, flutterbys of all kinds, and did I mention ladybugs?!
